KMAfrica KnowledgeHub provides Africa's Knowledge community with new ways to participate. KnowledgeHub delivers a mix of forums, resources and KMAfrica conference papers that encourage members to engage in complex conversations while stimulating stronger connections and networks. The topics and resources represent a range of cross-cutting knowledge and insight that evoke the appropriate actions transforming vision into reality.
KnowledgeHub is designed to provide much of what you'd find at a live KMAfrica conference including formal papers, special interest Groups (SIGs), resources and informal conversations between sessions. KnowledgeHub is a community platform for knowledge creators in African colleges and universities to role-model knowledge sharing using social media. There is know-how that helps expand the role of libraries in communities and KM professionals can keep current with a network of consultants and academics. Knowledge entrepreneurs will find useful know-how and ideas and kindered spirits with whom to share useful ideas. Tacit knowledge NOT over looked in Africa
Tacit knowledge is not overlooked in Africa a lot of efforts are going into codifying the tacit knowledge of rural communities here in South Africa. It is referred to as Indigenous knowledge and a lot of excellent work has been done by the folks at the Department of Science and Technology under the auspices of NIKSO (you can Google this and read further). However, i do agree with you there is more work that needs to be done.
On the contrary though, there is a certain mystery surrounding some forms of indigenous knowledge and the more this is exposed there runs a risk of it being inaccurately recorded or completely missing the context. Although i do agree with you, I think indigenous knowledge to some extent has to remain untouched and should be transmitted the same way that our ancestors did - by word of mouth- and this will ensure that communities maintain a strong bond and younger generations learn from the older ones
Knowledge Management, just like Love
Knowledge management defies a common definition, that is, there is no common definition of knowledge management in the established literature.Just like the term love not so? The definition of knowledge management varies from one field to another.However the opportunities and challenges faced are in one way or another related in each and every field.
AFRICANS!!! Lets explore knowledge management opportunities as we rise from the level of poverty to the peak of prosperity.

Tacit knowledge overlooked in Africa
it has been observed that many people think only about books and other information carrying entities when it comes to knowledge management.They overlook the other type of knowledge " TACIT" which is the type of knowledge embedded in people's minds.This type of knowledge is also common in African rular areas.As African we should therefore find means and ways of extracting and managing this type of knowledge so as to benefit fully from our own knowledge.There should be established repositories about African indigenous knowledge for people to copy here necessary.

I like the conference format and the way you have dealt with it while still allowing easy navigation. I wish our organisation could implement something like this.

I joined this platform a day ago, and I have been glued in the website since. Every moment I visit the site I realise how much I have been missing. On a personal level I am moving towards a knowledge consulting future and will appreciate to read comments from different people on the subject of knowlegde management. I am delighted to be part of information and knowldege management society. Never again shall I struggle to source information on the burning issues in our society.

I strongly believe in Rosemary's commentary on KM but you should have hope because there is great potential in Africa in the area of knowledge production.Africa needs to be able to define its own knowledge and contribute to the global knowledge output.It is not good to remain as consumers because this creates a dependency syndrome and results in mental ineptitude /laziness.If we look within ourselves we realise that there is so much potential which requires our skills to harness it for the betterment of Africa
KM IS THE FUTURE
I strongly believe that KM AFRICA will create a platform were we can interact and exxchange knowledge for the benefit of the continent.It is mportant to incorperate such subjects like Indigenous Knowledge and Knowledge Management within our curricular sop that we develop a knowledge consciopus generation.The continent has a lot to offer and also to learn from others.It is through investing more in knowldge production , processing or coordination and promotion, that Africa will be able to realise its full potential.Sharing knowledge is critical because knowledge must be shared.Africa's future lies in knowledge management because without it the continent will remain backward.

I am in the process of learning about KMAfrica. But the little I've gathered so far is quite impressive. In Africa, we have all along heavily relied on knowledge from the west and looked down upon that which we have. I hope this platform will help us look within us. Africa has alot to offer to the global village. All we need is to believe in ourselves, borrow ideas from others, process our own knowledge and share it with the world. I look forward to KMAfrica making this possible.
